OUR SEPTIC HAS NEVER BEEN CLEANED!!?

Our house was built in 1968- (3500 sq ft house), 5 people, 4 bathrooms. The tank has never been cleaned out and we have NEVER had a problem. We have a garbage disposal, washing machine etc. People are telling us to get it cleaned, but we are afraid to create a problem if there isn't one. Thoughts anyone?
